Bourbon Street Preachers.......................................................................... The band was formed three years ago when Dave Eatock – Accordion/Harmonica/vocals and Dave Taylor – Piano/vocals came together to work on a sound that would reflect the rich variety of music emanating from New Orleans and the wider reaches of Louisiana and the Mississipi Delta. The band name is taken from the famous Bourbon Street, New Orleans where live bands play in around 30 different bars every night of the week, supplemented by fabulous street artist and buskers. New Orleans of course is also home to some of the biggest and best Jazz and Blues festivals on the scene. After a short while the line up expanded to include Les Winterburn - soon to be replaced by Bob Jones – guitar/vocals, Ken Pressdee – bass guitar/vocals and Dave Thorpe – percussion, and the band soon established a residency at the Red Bull in Stockport. Playing a mixture of cover tunes and an increasing number of self penned numbers the band is heavily influenced by such great performers as Willie Dixon, Elmore James, Fats Domino, Clifton Chenier and Nathan Abshire, contributing the best of the Blues, Cajun and Zydeco. When the Red Bull residency came to an end due to impending refurbishment of the building, the band moved to the Lloyds in Chorlton, Manchester, where they have played every Thursday since April 2007. Around the same time, Dave Taylor decided it was ‘time to move on’, and the band welcomed saxophone player Alison Diamond as his replacement. Anthony Haller has replaced Ken on bass. The B.S.P.’s are gradually building a reputation as a band offering good solid entertainment through their performances around the North West Region. Our message is – We ain’t preachin’ Ree ligion Nooooooooooooo! We ain’t preachin’ Polly tics Nooooooooooooo! We’re preachin’ LIVE MUSIC! We’re preachin’ Laissez les bon temps roulez! So c’mon Laissez les bon temps roulez! The song Jalapena Lena was written by the late, great Rockin' Sidney Simien, who died on 25th Feb. 1998. In our live set we include 4 other songs of Sidney's:- Joy to the South, You ain't nothin' but fine, If it's good for the gander, and the internationally renowned My Toot toot.
